Verrucae
Verrucae are warts on the sole of the foot. They are often confused with corns or callus – but the treatment is different, so a good diagnosis should be made before any kind of treatment is used, including over-the-counter ones you can buy yourself. Verrucae are caused by a viral infection, whereas corns and callus are caused by pressure.
If they are not disappearing naturally, your immune system is ignoring the virus as it cause no real harm.
You shouldn't feel pressure to treat a verrucae, but you may wish to if they are painful or if you are concerned it may spread to your hands, other parts of your feet, or other people.
At Sport & Footworks, we treat verrucaee using chemicals and freezing. The aim is to irritate the infected cells enough fool your immune system into thinking that the verrucca virus is harmful, so that your immune system will clear the infection.
How to Book
Ask for a Verrucca appointment. You will initially need a 30 minute appointment to include a health questionnaire and foot assessment.
What to expect
We remove the dead layer covering the verucca so that the treatments can get to the living parts of the verrucca. We usually start with chemical treatments. You need to keep these treatments on your foot for several days. We cannot say how many appointments will be needed to remove a verrucca.
Follow Up
Any subsequent appointments you will need, ask for a short verrucca appointment (15 minutes). We usually see you fortnightly for.
